Powder brows refer to a cosmetic styling technique that subtly fills in the brows and gives them a soft, powdery appearance. To achieve this powder-like effect, artists use a special shading technique using a device similar to a needle gun.
A small needle and swift hand movements are required to quickly inject pigment into the skin, creating the pixelated appearance of powder makeup. The artists can repeatedly layer the pixels to enhance depth, giving the brow the appearance of being filled in with a pencil or brow powder.
The trick to shading is to precisely layer the pixels so that they don’t look darker and denser than real eyebrow hair. This can be a convenient and easy option for people who regularly draw on their eyebrows.
What Is the Durability of Powder Brows?
Depending on your skin type and lifestyle, these permanent brows might last anywhere between three to five years. Factors such as skin conditions, perspiration, immune system, hormones, sun exposure, metabolism, and skin care products have a strong impact on the life of your brows.
It’s important to follow pre-care and after-care instructions as it will affect short term and long term results. This service is a team effort between the client and artist.
Things To Avoid Before Getting Powder Brows Done
Certain precautions are to be taken weeks before the procedure. Some of them include:
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine consumption 24 hours before the procedure
- Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure and tanning
- Do not tweeze, wax or thread off eyebrows for at least 4 days prior to the procedure
Things To Avoid After Getting Powder Brows Done
If you wish to get the desired results, make sure you do not interfere in any way, during the healing period. Actions and habits that can ruin the end results include:
- Rubbing the eyebrows
- Scratching the eyebrows
- Picking at the scabs on the eyebrows. Although most of my clients don’t scab much.
- Sun exposure, sun bathing.
- Excessive water, or submerging the brows in water, no swimming.
- Sweating on the face for 7 days or using the Sauna.
Aftercare For Powder Brows
Aftercare instructions differ from one artist to another. Some advise their clients to wash some, not to wash them. Application of the ointment may also differ.
This difference of opinion is categorised into wet healing and dry healing.
The wet healing process involves washing the brows with water and soap then patting them dry using a disposable paper towel. Then lastly, applying a rice grain of ointment. This is the method that I follow and has produced great healed results for me and my clients with little to no scabbing.
As far as dry healing is concerned, there are two ways to go about it. The first one involves washing the brows and letting them air dry. The second method uses no ointments or washing at all. It dictates that eyebrows must remain untouched and must be left to recover naturally.
How Do Post-Procedure Treatments Look?
Your brow artist should provide detailed post-procedure care instructions. To achieve the best results, it is crucial that you adhere to and follow their directions.
You’ll probably be asked to keep the treated area dry. This does not mean you cannot take a bath or wash your face. There are numerous ways to shower without getting your brows wet or ruining the newly done procedure.
When Can I Shower After The Treatment?
Powder brows aren’t supposed to be submerged in water but can still be washed, including your face. This means you can shower the same day as the enhancement, preferably before your appointment. Just don’t get your brows wet and let the shower water run on your face.
On the day of your appointment you will be washing your brows 2-4 hours after leaving the salon. Wash, dry and apply ointment as directed and repeat before bed.
Although a shower is allowed after the treatment, please make it a short one. As vapor and steam can ruin your results. Try to keep the shower under five minutes and use warm water instead of hot.
You can apply barrier patches to prevent moisture from getting on your powdered brows. You can inquire about them with your makeup artist.
Tips For Showering After The Treatment
Showering without getting your brows wet may sound tricky, but here is a great trick to use that can help
- Apply a thick layer of Aquaphore on each brow before jumping in the shower. This will create a barrier and the water will repel. But please be sure to wipe it off as soon as you are done with your shower. And resume regular after care.
